Celebrating 100 Years of Agricultural Shows

Ganmain Show Society

Home

The 2008 Centenary Show was the best exhibition held for a generation. Gate takings were a record, doubling the previous best, and the weather was perfect. This was a relief as the week leading up to the Show was a hectic one.

Show week celebrations included a memorabilia display and book launch by Tim Fischer in the Ganmain Hall, The Showgirl Dinner/Reunion was a fantastic event with over 20 previous Showgirls attending. The successful 2008 Ganmain Showgirl, Rebecca Turnbull, was selected to compete at The Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Friday was spent finalizing preparations for the Centenary Show. The RAS Dog Show commenced and judging was conducted in the main pavilion all afternoon. Brett Lenon and many willing volunteers began building the haystack in miserable weather.

On Saturday the weather was perfect and the massive crowd was treated to a colossal program. This included the regular competitive classes, numerous demonstrations, many main attractions and the Grand Parade which featured cars, machinery, and Clydesdale teams pulling wagons.

The 18 tonne round haystack was completed mid afternoon and was a favourite with the crowd. The fireworks display that evening was spectacular and proved to be a fitting finale to a fantastic week.

On behalf of the 2008 committee I sincerely thank every person who assisted in making the Centenary Show exceed all expectations. Also I would like to thank all ex-Ganmain and district residents who returned for one, two or all of the Show Societies main events.

Finally I would like to wish all exhibitors and patrons a successful and enjoyable 2009 Ganmain Show.
