Show Day |

The 2010 Ganmain First Ganmain Show will feature the usual highly popular competitive classes as well as several new main attractions.
Light horse events will be run in rings 1, 2, 3 and 5, with Clydesdales competing in ring 4. The newly added Mounted Games section (flag, bending, barrel and three mug race) offers over $300 in prize money and will commence at approximately 2:30pm.
Class C Show jumping will offer the usual six event program with over $450 in prize money to be won and many bags of quality Ganmain chaff.
We are hoping to be able to run trotting trials throughout the afternoon, the first for many years.
The livestock classes are dominated by Class D – sheep; Class H – poultry. Patrons are encouraged to wander through both of these pavilions. The younger patrons can see various animals in the farmyard nursery inside the sheep pavilion.
Class E – Dogs includes the very popular Championship Dog Show held over three days, and the highly competitive 24th annual yard dog trials. The yard dog trials will offer over $5000 in prize money with Wagga Mutual Credit Union as this events major sponsor. Come and watch some of the best dogs in NSW in action.
The quickshear competition offers over $1000 in prize money and will feature bladeshearing throughout the day. An added feature will be demonstrations of shearing using a hand operated shearing machine from 1900’s. At the conclusion of the shearing events a sheaf tossing competition offering $200 in prize money will commence at approximately 4:30pm.
On Friday a team of men will begin to build a 25 tonne round haystack. They will work all show day and finish the task Saturday afternoon. This stack will be made from sheaf hay and a working reaper binder will give patrons a clearer idea of how sheaves are made. This is the only agricultural show where you can witness this rare trade in action.
In the main pavilion the competitive classes include wool, caged birds, farm produce, garden and poultry produce, flowers, jams (marmalades, pickles & chutneys), cookery, needle and fancywork, a junior section, handicrafts, fine arts and photography. There will also be non competitive displays by the local schools.
Outside the main pavilion the popular homebrewing class along with Junior Judging of wool and grain will draw many interested competitors and spectators alike.
New attractions this year include a fishing competition. A dollar will allow the patron a chance to cast their line and attempt to land the lure in a hole a short distance away. All successful attempts go into a barrel and may win hundreds of dollars worth of prizes. The Great Ganmain Pie Eating Competition should attract a large field of pie eaters and spectators. Heats begin at midday on the quickshear stage and competitors will be timed on how fast they can eat three famous Ganmain pies.
The Showgirl competitions will commence at 3:00pm and include the ever-popular junior sections and the best dressed male and female award. Other main attractions on the day will be the chainsaw carver, Wagga Harley’s Owners Group, veteran and vintage cars and the excitement of sideshow alley.
At 5:30pm there will be some thrilling motocross stunts performed by several local riders. You can see the daring jumps performed in the main ring inside the trotting track. The 102nd annual Show will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display lasting 10 minutes. |
